Greeva Vasti (Neck Care)

Greeva Vasti is a specialised neck-care therapy in which a ring of black-gram dough is placed over the back of the neck to hold warm medicated oil at a consistent temperature. The oil is kept comfortably warm for roughly thirty to forty-five minutes, allowing its warmth and medicinal properties to settle into the cervical region and the muscles around it.
The pooled-oil phase is followed by an oil massage and a Kizhi (herbal poultice) over the affected area, helping the neck feel looser, calmer and more mobile.
What this therapy supports
- Relieves cervical pain and chronic neck discomfort
- Eases stiff, knotted muscles and improves head movement
- Soothes compressed nerves, easing numbness or tingling down the arms
- Boosts local circulation
The session, step by step
Lying face down
You lie comfortably face down so the back of the neck is exposed.
Placing the dough ring
A black-gram dough ring is built at the trigger point on the neck to form a warm reservoir.
Warm pooled oil
Warm medicated oil is poured in and kept consistently warm for around 30 to 45 minutes.
Soothing massage
The dough is removed and a calming oil massage is given over the neck.
Warm Kizhi
A warm herbal poultice (Kizhi) is applied to the affected area to finish.
Greeva Vasti is not suitable for all neck pain and is only carried out under Vaidya guidance. It should be avoided in acute inflammatory conditions, hot swelling or infection in the neck, where there are open wounds, burns, psoriasis or eczema on the neck, during fever or active infection, and in cases of recent cervical fractures or dislocations. Because of this, the therapy cannot be booked online; a free consultation with our Ayurveda Vaidya is required first to confirm it is suitable for you.
