Netra Tarpanam (Eye Rejuvenation)
A deeply nourishing eye therapy where warm medicated ghee is pooled over the eyes within a dough well. Relieves digital eye strain, dry eyes and fatigue. Done over a consecutive-day course with strict rest. Cannot be booked online — send an enquiry or book a free consultation first.
Netra Tarpanam, also known as Akshi Tarpana, is a deeply nourishing eye therapy in which small wells of black-gram dough are built around each eye socket and filled with warm medicated ghee, such as Triphala ghee, until it gently covers the eyes. As you slowly open and close your eyes, the ghee coats, lubricates and cleanses the eyes, the surrounding muscles and the nerves around them.
The therapy is carried out as a consecutive-day course with strict rest. During treatment, opening the eyes feels like a warm bath and vision turns temporarily golden and blurry; afterwards the eyes are wiped and may feel hazy with brief mild burning, so sunglasses, eye rest and reduced screen time are advised.

The session, step by step
Lying on the back
You lie comfortably on your back as the dough frames are prepared around each eye.
Building the dough wells
Wells of black-gram dough are built around each eye socket, giving a gentle, warm weight.
Filling with warm ghee
Warm medicated ghee, such as Triphala ghee, is poured into the wells until it covers the eyes; opening the eyes feels like a warm bath and vision turns golden and blurry.
Gentle eye movements
You gently open and close your eyes so the ghee coats, lubricates and cleanses the eyes, muscles and nerves.
Wiping and aftercare
The wells are removed and the eyes wiped; they may feel hazy with brief mild burning, so sunglasses, eye rest and reduced screen time are advised.
Netra Tarpanam is not suitable for all eye problems and is only carried out after consultation with a qualified Vaidya. It should be avoided where there is an active eye infection such as conjunctivitis, styes or ulcers, severe congestion, heavy colds or sinusitis with weeping eyes, in very young children or the very elderly, during intoxication, and on overcast, rainy or cold days as these aggravate Kapha. For these reasons the therapy cannot be booked online; a free consultation with our Ayurveda Vaidya is required first.
